Gould's turkeys
The Gould´s turkey is Sonora's only native wild turkey specie. They are slightly larger than Merriam's
turkey. Gould's were an important food source for those who settled and worked in the rugged lands of Eastern Sonora years
ago. Season 2011 runs from April-May. This is a premium Gould’s hunt. With 6,200 acres to hunt, quality guides, great lodge accommodations
and good food, this is surely one of the most successful and comfortable Gould’s hunts available today. Success is virtually
100% every year with an opportunity to take a second bird for a trophy fee. Turkey populations are very high and you will
be into birds every time out. The trip is 6 days with 4 full days of hunting. Most Gould’s hunts are in camps
that are rough or rustic at best. This is definitely a step up and the price is great. Hunt
cost is $ 1,950.00 license included, additional license is $ 250.00 plus trophy fee. Shot guns are provided
by the outfitter with real turkey loads. If you chose to bring your own gun, there is an additional gun import fee payable
to the government and we will help with the required paperwork.
Doves
& Ducks Mourning Dove This is the most common and widely occurring game bird in Sonora, and the mourning dove's trim, streamlined
body, accentuated by its tiny head and sharply tapered tail is familiar to even the most casual observer of birds. This dove
can also be differentiated from its white-winged cousin by its overall brown color, a lack of white on all but the outer tail
feathers, the presence of black spots on the upper wing surfaces, and the distinctive rattling whistle that is emitted by
the bird's wing feathers when it takes flight. White-winged Dove This bird's hefty size and rounded off tail give the "white-wing" the appearance of being half
dove and half pigeon, hence the older name of "Sonora pigeon." Whitewings differ from the more widespread mourning
dove in having an overall grayer plumage, a white-tipped tail, and the white wing epaulets that give the bird its name. The
whitewing's flight also appears slower, less purposeful, and more pigeonlike than the mourning dove's. Adults can be distinguished
by an unfeathered bright blue eye patch, red feet, and eyes that range from yellow-orange to orange-red. Season
2011-2012 runs from November 2011
through March 2012. For additional info and prices visit us at www.solimarsafaris.com.mx
Quail Gambel's Quail Found throughout the state, this bird is often
hunted in open desert country where they are more apt to run or flush than hold for a dog. The Gambel's jaunty, plumed topknot, carried by both sexes, makes for ready identification, along
with the male's bright russet cap, black face and bib, and cream-colored belly marked with a black horseshoe. Season 2010-2011 runs from November 2011 through March 2012. The trip is 4 days, 3 days of hunting with six outings, Hunt cost is $ 1,700.00 license included. Shot guns are provided by the outfitter with 71/2 loads. If you
chose to bring your own gun, there is an additional gun import fee payable to the government and we will help with the required
paperwork.
